A Message From Your Oasis Elementary PTO

 Parent-Teacher Organization  (PTO) Corner:

We would like to take this newsletter moment to introduce ourselves!

Jayme Bateman, President

This is my 2nd year at Oasis but my 10th year in PTO. I have previously served as secretary, Vice President, and President. I’m excited to serve as the president this year at Oasis! I’m a single mom to 3 crazy kids; high school, junior high, and OES. Books are my passion! I set a goal on New Years to read 52 books in a year…I’m at 31 so far! We love watching Dr Who and playing soccer! JTNP is our happy place! The desert is hot but we must love it since my family has been here for 25 years!

Gina Gabler, Vice President

This is my 3rd year volunteering and my 2nd year on the board! I’m 26 and I have 5 kids whom I adore! I am a hairstylist and love crazy colorful hair! I enjoy coffee as much as my kids enjoy play dates at the park J Christmas is my holiday and I have my tree up right after Halloween! I am looking forward to a wonderful year with all our Bobcats here at Oasis! Did someone mention Harry Potter….?

Meridith Riddlespurger, Secretary

I’m 26 and have 5 children. This is my first year on the PTO board but I have volunteered in the past. My favorite color is orange and I go all out for Halloween. My family and I love anything that has to do with being outside, when it’s not a million degrees out of course! We love playing on the beach!

Veronica Bennett, Treasurer

This is my second year volunteering on the PTO board. I have one Bobcat and one Bobcat in training. I am a military spouse of 10+ years. Along with volunteering my time to PTO and Oasis Elementary, I also volunteer my time to a local military spouses running club. My family and I love to stay active whether it’s running, hiking, or exploring the state. I like to be knowledgeable and have resources on hand in order to help our community in any way possible. Looking forward to a great new year and meeting our Bobcat families!

Susie Fogg, Parliamentarian

I enjoy being apart of our Oasis Elementary community. I have one child currently at Oasis this year. I have volunteered in the classroom and as part of the PTO off and on since 2007 when my older children first joined OES. This is my first year being a part of the PTO board. Currently at our school, I help with the Box Tops program, getting the tops collected and mailed in. I am also active in the School Site Council as the secretary. Reading is my favorite past time and it is my pleasure to encourage students to open a book and go on an adventure! I look forward to all of the amazing things that we as parents, teachers, and students will accomplish this year at OES!

Every Friday is Bobcat Day! Wear your Bobcat shirts or school colors to school!

Ways You Can Help

School Carnivals     Oasis has two carnivals a year for our children. The teachers have always been a great support for both the fall and spring festivals. However, the teachers cannot do this alone.  These fun events require a lot of manpower.  Volunteers are needed in the planning, decorating, set up, and tear down phases as well as in running the many game booths, activities, ticket sales, raffles, and basket auctions.  Let us know where you would like to help and we will fill you in on the details.

Book Fairs     Book Fair volunteers aid in the set up, decorating, selling, tear down, and clean up at our book fairs.  The Book Fair committee will assign time slots for the volunteers based on your availability during the week of the fair.

The Bobcat Store     The Bobcat Store is a place where your child may shop with Bobcat bucks. Your child earns Bobcat Bucks for good behavior and academic success in his or her classroom. Parent volunteers run the store during school hours. The store is open throughout the year and is always in need of parent volunteers.

Food     PTO is in need of food during different events throughout the year. For instance the carnivals have cakewalks and we have provided a potluck “teachers appreciation lunch”. PTO needs names of parents who are willing to provide bake goods or a main dish for events. The food committee may then contact these parents for help during events.

Box Tops for Education     General Mills donates 10 cents for every Box Top our school collects and sends in to the company. Box Tops are collected in the classroom and volunteers are needed monthly to collect Box Tops and then twice a year to count and bag the Box Tops that are sent to General Mills for processing.

PTO meetings     Unless otherwise noted, meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the MPR at Oasis Elementary. The meetings are open to all parents and local community members. During the meetings, upcoming events are discussed as well as issues concerning our school.  We encourage you to attend.
