Superintendent Search

The Morongo Unified School District (MUSD) has undertaken a search for our new Superintendent. The Cosca Group, an executive search firm, was selected to assist in finding the best candidate to serve the citizens of the Morongo Basin.
The superintendent search process will include stakeholder input opportunities, robust recruitment and outreach efforts, intensive and confidential vetting of candidates, and presentation of candidates to the MUSD Board of Education. The Board of Education is solely responsible for hiring the new Superintendent. The Board will seek, receive, and consider all input from the community, review all applications, interview candidates, and select the new Superintendent.

Morongo USD Search Process and Timeline
Phase I—Pre Recruitment 
  • Solicit feedback from School Board, staff, parents, students and community 

3 weeks
Dec 7-Jan 12
Phase II—Recruitment 
  • Finalize District profile
  • TCG prepares electronic brochure that includes a District profile, District strengths and desired characteristics of Superintendent and application
  • Begin recruitment

Approx. six weeks  
Mid-January - March
Phase III—Selection of applicants for interview 
  • Review applicants
  • Screen application/applicants
  • Board selects candidates for interview
  • Board schedules interview dates

1-2 weeks 
Phase IV—The Interview Process
  • Interview dates and process selected by Board
  • Board conducts initial interviews
  • Board selects candidates for final interview

Phase V—Selection of Applicants for Interviews
  • Board makes site visit to selected candidate’s district.
  • TCG assists with contract development with Board, candidate, and districts legal counsel.
  • Board approves Superintendent and approves employment agreement at Regular Board Meeting.
