MUSD District- Wide Library-Media Plan Vision Statement
Through
changes in library-media service, campus – wide networking of computer
technologies, addition of books and new resources, replacement of worn
books and resources. The five year plan will increase the ability and
desire of all students to reach performance levels for academic and
personal success. The library –media center will support the faculty in
their educational mission through cooperative planning and updating of
curriculum-related and professional resources. The curriculum will be
supported through programming responsive to the changing needs of
students and additions to relevant library material.
LCMS Vision Statement
La Contenta Middle School shares and supports the Morongo Unified School District ’s library vision. The vision of the La Contenta Middle School
library program is to ensure that students are effective users of ideas
and information, enabling them to be literate life-long learners so
that each student develops ownership of his or her own learning.
La
Contenta Middle School Library will continue to meet the curricular and
recreation needs of students by being accessible before, during and
after school, providing a safe, well lighted attractive environment with
current and appealing books, information and communications
technologies (ICT) and media reference materials. Our goals are: student
achievement, improved test scores, and life-long tools for personal
investigation.
La Contenta Middle School
Library will continue to meet the needs of the staff with current
materials as articulated in the state curriculum frameworks, content
standards and literature lists as well as school and district curriculum
guides and adopted instructional materials. The library will continue
to operate on a flexible scheduling calendar.
In support, the LCMS Library will do the following each year:
¨ Encourage each student to read 1 million or more words annually
¨ Encourage each student to have a public library card
¨ Complete the CDE Online School Library Survey
¨
Update the collection and support materials based upon the textbook
adoption of that specific year. The criteria for acquisitions and
de-selection of the collection will include the Essential Standards of
that subject matter and the topics covered in the textbook
¨ Use the CDE guidelines for Weeding the School Library.
¨ Promote and support the Accelerated Reading progra through the purchase of books and matched tests for students and identifying the shelved books as AR
¨
Help students with their annual research papers, locate information and
create a bibliography. All students and staff will practice ethical
behavior in regard to information and information technology including
discussion of the concepts of cut paste, plagiarism and copyright law
¨
Conduct student library orientation through the English Classes and
provide new staff members with library orientation at the beginning of
each school year
¨ Facilitate the processing and checking out of textbooks to students.
