Morongo Unified School District News Article

February Message from Superintendent Dr. Vargas

Good afternoon Morongo USD families,

We’re off to a great start in 2023 with a few highlights I’d like to share with you. Our students are thriving! Four of our schools were recently recognized by the California Department of Education as Purple Star Schools. This designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate the highest commitment and are best equipped to serve our military-connected students. Congratulations to Condor Elementary, Twentynine Palms Elementary, Twentynine Palms Junior High and Twentynine Palms High School.

Additionally, Black Rock High School was recently selected as a 2023 Model Continuation High School for their extraordinary commitment during the pandemic, providing students educational options and mental health resources which has set them on a path for success.

We also recently celebrated the ribbon cutting ceremony of a state-of-the-art kitchen facility at Freedom Plaza in Twentynine Palms. In this facility students will learn gainful employment skills in the Culinary Arts and Management Pathway. This program would not be possible without the partnership with the City of Twentynine Palms providing the facility for student use.

Know that one of our goals is to build trust with YOU, our MUSD families and community members. To do this, the Sheriff’s department is committed to partner with the district to ensure safety at our school sites.

Last, but not least, we are working on a new district logo and website that we look forward to sharing with you in the near future.

We are working hard to earn and keep your trust so that TOGETHER, we can provide the foundation for student success for all.

Proud to be MUSD!
