Dear Mesa Families,
We hope you all had a great winter break! There was some conversation about returning to school in a hybrid model starting January 19. Because of the rise of COVID cases, Morongo Unified School District will continue to stay with distance learning and independent study. We sure hope things get better so we can once again welcome your children back to the MESA for in person learning five days a week.
Whether your child is doing distance learning or independent study, attendance is still taken and required. If your child is sick and cannot attend class make sure you reach out to your child’s teacher or Mrs. Fowler in the office. For the whole school we have aligned lunch and recess times to make family planning a smoother transition. Students need to be in class for the whole day for their attendance to be counted; this includes returning to class after recess and lunch, unless teacher says differently.
Our first semester is quickly ending, the semester ends January 15 and report cards will be mailed home. We will be offering some tutoring and enrichment programs in February; teachers will be in contact with certain students that could use extra academic support. For those students wanting to participate in our enrichment activities, there will be limited spots so that will be based on who signs up first.
For those that are still struggling with consistency of good WI-FI the Morongo Unified School District is looking to put WI-FI towers up that would provide families with free internet capabilities, a great resource for all. More information to come.
We have handed out over 400 laptops this school year and for the most part, our students have been using them appropriately and being responsible. Remember that the primary use for them is to work in canvas and be in zoom meetings with their teacher for instruction. If there are issues that arise, we have someone on campus each day until 12:00 that can assist you with technical difficulties. You may call to schedule an appointment to have your device worked on.
When coming on campus we need to remind you of our expectations. Upon entering campus you will wait to have your temperature checked and will be asked five questions to ensure that you have no medical conditions that are aligned with COVID protocols. Once cleared you may enter campus. If you are bringing in a child for independent study, a majority of student’s time will be with the teacher who is teaching your child. If the teacher needs to walk thru lessons with you, they will ask you to come in. There are designated seating areas for all. We ask that only one adult comes in with the student and you sit in our designated areas. The safer we are, the sooner we all can return to school in a safe manner.
Sincerely,
Matt Gay
Principal
