Saturday, September 29, the CA Cadet Corps (CACC) cadets of Yucca Valley High School and La Contenta Middle School spent a Saturday morning at Big Morongo Canyon Preserve to support National CleanUp Month. Community Service is vital in the CACC leadership program, reinforcing the benefits of volunteerism and building strong community relations.

The cleanup included removing broken branches, clearing trails, and spreading piles of chipped wood to prevent fires. They were joined by the cadets of Twentynine Palms Junior High School and Twentynine Palms High School. Also supporting the effort were the Marines of MCAGCC Single Marine Program. Cadet students learned that joining forces in teamwork betters the community, even if it means sacrificing a Saturday. The event ended with a lunch and a fun hike in the outskirts of the preserve, provided by the staff of Big Morongo Canyon Preserve.
