Morongo Unified School District is proud to announce that Black Rock High School has been recognized as a 2026 Model Continuation High School by the California Department of Education. The designation, announced by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, honors 59 continuation schools across California for their outstanding commitment to supporting students through innovative instruction, flexible scheduling and comprehensive student services.

Model Continuation High Schools provide vital opportunities for students who may be at risk of not completing their high school education. These schools offer personalized learning environments, counseling services and flexible academic programs that help students stay on track to earn their high school diplomas while preparing for their futures.

“The priority of our Model Continuation High Schools is to give students more than a diploma,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. “The teachers and administrators aim to provide students with a student-centered approach that meets their diverse academic, social, and emotional needs and opportunities to explore options beyond high school and prepare students for the future—whether they choose to pursue further education or join the workforce.”

Black Rock High School, part of the Morongo Unified School District, earned this recognition for its strong commitment to personalized instruction, meaningful relationships between staff and students and programs designed to help students overcome barriers to graduation. The school’s dedicated team works closely with students to create individualized academic plans and provide the guidance and support necessary for success both during and after high school.
