The Morongo Unified School District is proud to announce the launch of its Dual Language Immersion Pathway, beginning in the 2025–26 school year with a new kindergarten class at Yucca Valley Elementary School.
Enrollment is now open for this innovative program, which offers students the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural in English and Spanish. The program provides a strong academic and cultural foundation that supports long-term success in school, college, career and beyond.
A dual language immersion program is an educational model in which students are taught literacy and content in two languages. Typically, instruction is divided between English and a partner language, enabling students to develop high levels of proficiency in both.
“This is an exciting step for MUSD and our community,” said Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Dr. Graciela Gutierrez. “The program will not only support academic excellence but also open doors to a more connected global future for our students.”
Program Highlights:
50/50 Instructional Model: Students receive instruction in English and Spanish equally across all content areas starting in kindergarten.
Standards-Aligned Curriculum: The program follows the Common Core State Standards, ensuring students meet grade-level expectations in both languages.
Academic & Cognitive Benefits: Bilingual students develop advanced reasoning and critical thinking skills that support achievement in math, science and literacy.
Cultural Enrichment: Students grow in confidence, self-esteem and cultural awareness.
Long-Term Success: Students continuing in the program will be well-positioned to earn the California State Seal of Biliteracy in high school.
The program is open to all incoming kindergarten students throughout the District, but will be hosted by Yucca Valley Elementary School. It is designed to grow with the students, adding one grade level each year to ensure continuity and long-term success. First grade will be added in the 2026–27 school year, allowing the inaugural kindergarten class to continue in the Dual Language Immersion Pathway without interruption.
