Morongo Unified School District has been recognized with the Gold Turnip the Beet Award by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for excellence in its Summer Meal Program. The award, presented in partnership with the California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division, honors schools that provide nutritious meals and innovative nutrition education during the summer months.
MUSD’s nutritional services department was recognized for offering nutrition education at summer sites, providing meals that are nutritious and appealing based on local taste tests and local foods, and using creative marketing strategies to engage students, families and the community. The Turnip the Beet Award evaluates programs on a wide range of nutrition and meal quality criteria and awards gold, silver or bronze status to outstanding school districts nationwide.
