fire chief acting as a principal for a day

Morongo Unified School District  hosted its inaugural Principal for a Day program on Oct. 7, bringing community leaders and representatives from across the Morongo Basin into local schools for a firsthand look at the daily experiences of students, teachers and school leaders.

The day began with a community breakfast, where participants connected with district leadership and one another before heading to their assigned school sites to spend the morning alongside their principals.

Representatives from the City of Twentynine Palms, Town of Yucca Valley, Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command and Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center , Joshua Tree Rotary, Twentynine Palms Rotary, Twentynine Palms Water District, Morongo Valley Fire Department, Morongo Valley CSD, Landers Homestead Valley Association and other community organizations participated in the event.

Throughout the morning, community leaders embraced the opportunity to be part of the school day. Participants welcomed students, visited classrooms, connected with teachers and staff, joined students during snack time, and some even stepped in to deliver morning announcements.

Principal for a Day is designed to strengthen partnerships between schools and the communities they serve while giving local leaders a closer look at the important work happening in MUSD schools.

“Our inaugural Principal for a Day program was a wonderful opportunity to connect our community leaders with our students and schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Patricio Vargas.

Morongo Unified School District extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the community leaders and organizations who participated in the inaugural Principal for a Day program.

“Thank you to all of our community partners for showing up, getting involved, and investing in the future of our students.”
